Senior Wildland Firefighter

What: Senior Firefighter for Platte Canyon Type 2IA Handcrew
When: Starting in May, 2009. Possibility of year round employment and benefits.
Compensation:  Variable dependent on experience.
Application Deadline:
     February 29th, 2009

Additional Requirements include:

  • Required NWCG classes:  S-130/190, I-100, L-180, S-212, S-131, First Aid/CPR
  • Required NWCG qualifications:  FFT1 (T), FALB (T), FALA, or higher
  • Recommended NWCG classes:  L-280, I-200, S-211, S-270, S-215, S-290,

Job Duties:
Operate and maintain a chainsaw; Possess mechanical abilities e.g. pump maintenance/repair, vehicle maintenance, radio programming, etc.; Must be willing to work on or have squad leader qualifications; Be able to lead squad in squad boss absence; Know wide range of fire line operations and tactics; Have knowledge of fire equipment and formats; Know district operations and procedures; Manage collateral duties; Assist with instruction and training of crew; Serve as scouts, lookouts, etc.; Possess specialized skills in addition to firefighter duties.

Application:
To apply for a job at the senior firefighter level a descriptive resume must be turned in to either the Superintendent or Asst. Superintendent by the deadline date.  Resumes must include descriptive analysis of job duty experience, additional knowledge and skill sets, and explanation of why candidate deserves position.  Applications will be evaluated by crew overhead, and hiring consideration will be determined by applicants’ strength of resume and observed work ethic (based on references or on personal observation).  Good Luck!
