What: Squad Leader for Platte Canyon Type 2IA Fire Crew
When: Year round employment starting April, 2009

• NWCG Qualified as FFT1, ICT5, FALB,CRWB (T), NREMTB within 12 months of hiring date
• Required Classes include:  S-130/190, S-131, S-212, S-290, I-200, L-280, First Aid/CPR
• Recommended Classes include:  S-211, S-270, S-215, S-230, S-234, S-260

Position Description:
Squad Bosses are a critical position on any hand crew.  Squad Bosses need to be experienced, confident, and willing to learn and direct.  This position requires hard physical work and leadership by setting the pace and being the direct link between crew members and overhead.  It is preferred, however not required, that squad bosses have some Type I Hand Crew experience. Squad bosses need to be well versed in fire behavior and fire line equipment. Troubleshooting pumps, saws, and personnel issues are all part of a Squad Bosses daily work load, and need to be carried out independently and efficiently. When not available with the crew for fire assignments; employee may be required to work in fuels reduction projects or other unspecified fire department duties.
