Welcome to the Platte Canyon Fire Web Site

A Note From the Chief:

The summer months are here and with them comes the threat of wildfire.  We offer free mitigation on your property to show you and mark the trees that need to be removed to help against the devastation of a wildfire.  Removing these trees will open up areas on the ground to help eliminate crown fires.  Limbing (pruning) your trees to a height of 8-10 feet will help stop a ground fire not getting into the tree tops.  Clean your gutters of debris, move your fire wood off or away from a structure, never leave a recreational campfire unattended, and treat all slash by chipping or removing it.

We will be conducting a slash collection on October 4 & 5 on top of Crow Hill by the Loaf n Jug.  The hours from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on both days.  An essential donation will be required for each load of slash to help defray the cost of the chipping and hauling away.

A Burn Permit is still required when conducting a recreational campfire on your private property.  The recreational campfire is for hot dogs, marshmallows, etc.  Slash and debris can only  be burned when there is 2-inches of snow on the ground.  All fire still need to be called into Fairplay prior to burning.  If we have a burn ban in place, no open fires of any size or any kind will be allowed.

If you have any questions, please call the office at 303-838-5853.

Sincerely,
Jeff Davis
Fire Chief
